Jaswant Thada Dam

Built in the 19th century, Jaswant Thada, the royal cenotaph, was constructed by Maharaja Sardar Singh ji in the memory of his courageous father, Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, the 33rd Rathore ruler of Jodhpur. The traditional cremation ground of the Jodhpur royal families, is located close to the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort and is one of the popular tourist destination in Jodhpur.

The main cenotaph that is dedicated to Maharaja Jaswant Singh ji is designed like an exquisite piece of Rajputana Architecture. Made with white marble, the cenotaph looks like a lovely temple with majestic domes, pavilions and delicate looking pillars. The polished white marble slabs glare when the sunrays fall on its surface. Inside the cenotaph are displayed portraits of various rulers and Maharajas of Jodhpur.

Next to the Jaswant Thada cenotaph are three other cenotaphs. Jaswant Thada is a store house of true to life portraits of Rathore warriors who ruled Jodhpur, their maharanis and concubines of Maharaja Jaswant Singhji who committed Sati on the pyre of the deceased ruler.
