Umaid Bhavan Palace

Built in the 20th century, Umaid Bhawan Palace was constructed by Maharaja Umaid Singh. The Palace is set amidst 26 acres of lush gardens. Maharaja Umaid Singh was quite fascinated with the western lifestyle hence the golden-yellow sandstone monument is a perfect blend of eastern and western architectural influences. The palace is one of the largest private residences in the world. A part of the palace is still the residence of the royal family and another section houses a museum displaying a range of antiques from Jodhpur's royal past. Its majestic 105 - foot high cupola is influenced by the Renaissance, while the towers draw inspiration from Rajput tradition.

A part of the Umaid Bhawan Palace has been converted in to a heritage hotel. The hotel commendably blends the traditions and Rajputana hospitality of the past with the modern day luxuries. The spectacular Central Rotunda, the Throne Room with its exquisite Ramayana murals, an elegant wood-panelled library, an indoor swimming pool, a Billiards Room, tennis courts and unique marble squash courts makes Umaid Bhawan Palace one of the most magnificent, grand, and must see site to visit in Jodhpur.
